The key to managing most aspects of the WebTycho classroom and class menu is the Faculty Center, the first link in the faculty member's view of the class menu.
Other menus to get to know are the Conference and Gradebook.
Basic directions for using the main items of the WebTycho menu are available in the WebTycho Faculty Guide.
Faculty Center
Use the Faculty Center to Manage most aspects of the classroom. To get to the Faculty Center interface, click on the first link in the WebTycho class menu, Faculty Center.
- If you want to customize your class menu to eliminate a function, enter the Faculty Center and "uncheck" all the functions that you will not use in this class. (Please note that any functions that have a red check mark cannot be removed.)
- If you want to create a new Course Content item, begin by going into the Faculty Center, locate the row "Course Content" and then click on the link Create Text or Create Link (you can create a new item by typing or pasting text or by providing a link to a website). After filling in the blanks provided, select Submit to finalize the creation process.
- If you want to create a new Conference item, begin by going into the Faculty Center, locate the row "Conference" and then click on the link Create or the link Manage. Use this screen to create the conference. Don't forget to submit the work as the final step.
Additional detail on using the Faculty Center can be found at WebTycho's help site.
Conferences
Once you create a conference (a virtual space where dialog can take place) through the Faculty Center, you will use the conference interface to create Topics to get the discussion going.
Create a Main Topic.
- Begin by clicking on the word Conference on the left side of the menu.
- Click on the name of the conference.
- Click on Create a Main Topic - located on the blue bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Enter a title in the title box and the text of your message in the text box.
- If you wish, you may also attach files.
- When you have completed the steps listed above, you must click Submit.
Additional details on How to Use Conferences can be found at WebTycho's help site.
