In an attempt to create a networked learning community and to explore the symposium theme of innovation, the CIP's 2008 Annual Symposium was offered not only for a face-to-face audience and a live webcast for individuals and institutions across the country, but was also streamed live into the virtual world of Second Life.

The program's newly appointed program director, Rana Khan, has recently implemented a number of initiatives, including a 10-day hands-on practicum and the university's first biotechnology symposium.

The Global Faculty Forum Initiative is an effort to expand the scope of the School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS) Faculty 999 Classrooms to encompass all three UMUC geographical divisions (Asia, Europe, and Stateside).
