Category: » Semester-checklist » Gsmt-checklist
As the semester draws to a close, it's time to wrap-up any loose ends and make sure you're on track to complete all class-related activities. Remember that grades are due 72 hours after the last day of class. Students need to receive their grades promptly in order to register for their next class, to apply for financial aid, to submit requests for reimbursement to employers, and to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
As always, in order to teach effectively online, faculty must attend to presentation in addition to content. Post end-of-semester information in a consistent manner and provide clear, concise, and timely directions and instructions.
Checklist for Web Enhanced Classes
(For use with any of the following WebTycho features.)
1. _____ Organize Remaining Tasks, Develop an Action Plan, and Allocate Sufficient Time
With the end of the semester in mind, determine what remains to be done, develop an action plan for completing these tasks, and allocate sufficient time for commenting on and grading final papers, projects, exams, and any makeup work.
2. _____ Announcement Area
Use the Announcements area to communicate end-of-semester information to all students. Try to anticipate your students' needs and provide timely announcements regarding any changes to the course syllabus, assignments, due dates, or other relevant information.
Notify students that they will continue to have access to the online classroom for a minimum of one month past the official class end date. After that, the class may be moved to the Archive server at any time (no student access). Please encourage your students to locally print or download any course materials they want to keep for future reference.
3. _____ Syllabus Area
Review your class Syllabus area; if you've made any changes or updates, let your students know in the class Announcements area.
4. _____ Course Content Area
Review your Course Content area; if you've made any changes or updates, let your students know in the class Announcements area. Also, consider reordering your items, so the most current material is at the top.
5. _____ Conference Area
Faculty should strive to stay highly visible, involved, and responsive to student needs at this critical time in the semester when students look for confirmation that they are indeed on the right track prior to completing their final papers, projects, and exams.
6. _____ Webliography
Encourage students who have found relevant web sites to post the links in the class Webliography area.
7. _____ Study Group Area
Faculty should touch base with the team leaders to ascertain whether they need any advice or support. Faculty may want to remind students about due dates for final projects.
8. _____ Assignment Area
Students expect regular and prompt feedback on their assignments. Let students know when and where to find your comments. If you're going to be delayed in posting feedback for any reason, let the students know in the class Announcement area or one-on-one as appropriate.
Check each student's portfolio and notify individual students regarding missed assignments or lack of participation. Provide clear guidelines for making up class work and explain penalties incurred for work not submitted.
9. _____ Students with Incomplete Grades
A procedure is in place that enables faculty to give WebTycho students with Incomplete grades access to their online classrooms beyond the official last day of class in order to complete their required course work online.
After the official last day of class, an additional link labeled "Roster Student" will appear on the WebTycho Class Menu for faculty only (below the "Class Members" link). Faculty who click on the "Roster Student" link will be presented with a page where they can select the students who should be given access to the class after the class has been archived.
Only those students whom faculty have rostered via the "Roster Student" function will have access to the section. Faculty members can continue to roster students until the class has been moved to off-line storage. This typcically occurs one year after the class end date. Upon rostering a student via the "Roster Student" function, it is the faculty member's responsibility to notify the student they have access to the classroom.
10. _____ Online Grade Rolls
At the end of the semester, for each section taught, faculty members must complete and submit an online grade roll via MyUMUC.
Grades are due 72 hours after the class end date.If you are unsure of your MyUMUC login and password contact Faculty Services for assistance.
